Ahhhhhh! Love! L-O-V-E!
Come here.  I want to share a story with you! Luckily, it's time for my foot massage and pedicure. Sit, and let's talk!

Now before we begin, you can't ask me my age, but I want to tell you a story about how Rama and I met. And yes, it was a while ago, but for our purposes today, I'm still in my early thirties.

A few years ago, when my hair was still long and dark and I didn't have to dye it, I saw the most beautiful man. He was meeting with my father, King Janaka. I did not know why he was there, or what purpose he came with, but I knew one thing: it was love at first sight. He gave me that feeling deep inside, you know, the one where your stomach feels all gushy and icky with butterflies.  I knew he was the one, and I could not live without him.

Meanwhile, I found out that my father had arranged a marriage for me.  He told me that my future husband was the perfect man; he had strung Siva's bow, which was almost impossible to do!  Still, I did not care one bit.  I wanted the man I had seen that day at my father's house. The one who gave me butterflies.

As the days passed, I was looking for a way out.  I could not possibly go through with this.  Would I ever be happy?  Would I ever truly fall in love?  I was so scared.  It really seemed like there was nowhere for me to turn.  So, I prepared as best I could.  If I did not try to make it work, this could be a long and unpleasant life.

Finally, the day came for us to marry. It seemed much quicker than I wanted it to.  I was still furious at my father.  I knew this was wrong.  I was in love with another man.  Not this man that my father thought was so great. Sorrow filled my heart; I knew I would never see my beloved again.

I prepared for my wedding with a heavy heart.  And I am rarely sad when I have fun make up and pretty clothes that I get to wear.  But the sadness seemed appropriate.

Turns out, I had nothing to worry about.  That man that my father had called "perfect" actually was perfect.  It was the beautiful man whom I had seen that day meeting with my father.  That man was Rama. I guess we both had a thing for each other.  It was just one of those feelings, you know, when something is just right.

I later asked him why he had met with my father that day.  He said he could not remember, but when he saw me in the distance, he knew he had to have me.  He said that was the only thing that really mattered, anyway.

I guess love at first sight really does exist because I am living proof!

Now, we did not exactly live happily ever after, there were a few bumps in the road, but I'll save those for another time and another manicure!

Let's head back to the other room and see what the girls are doing!

Come on!

Author's Note:  I wanted to create a story that was fun to read, and offered imaginative and creative imagery and narration.  Love stories are sometimes the most fun and entertaining stories! They also offer great adventure, along with ups and downs!  I retold the story of how Sita and Rama met, which is a fairytale within itself. Fate was definitely on their side, and I wanted that to show through in this story of how they met.  I also wanted to portray the despair Sita felt when she found out her marriage would be arranged.  This is more detail that the Ramayana touches on. The story in the Ramayana does illustrate her feelings, but not to the same extent as my story.  Her feelings were very deep, and she was very confused. That is really one of the only major fact changes I made.  I set the story in a hair salon, which is a big change from the Ramayana.  I chose this setting because it makes the story light and airy! Plus, the reader automatically gets a "fun" vibe! It is also a really great place to tell gossipy love stories, much like the one Sita told of her and Rama!
