The purpose of the Asian-American Festival is to raise awareness of and appreciation for the diverse Asian cultures represented in the Tulsa area by celebrating and learning about the customs and traditions of Asian Americans with entertaining and educational events for the entire family, and exploring the colorful cultures of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries in Asia.
Numerous activities, demonstrations, and presentations are scheduled indoors and outdoors throughout the festival from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the 1st Saturday of June in Martin Regional Library, including interactive educational booths featuring arts and crafts for kids, face painting, name translation, henna painting, sari folding, origami instruction, cooking, singing, dancing, acupuncture, kung fu, tai chi and other traditional Asian disciplines. Local Asian restaurants provide food concession. Admission to the festival is free.
The festival is sponsored and funded by Tulsa Library Trust and generous sponsors and participating organizations.
