What
I used from these web sites were the various flood mythological stories
and basically just tried to retell the story exactly as the story would
have sounded but in my own words. The flood stories that I chose
all have the basic premise that the people of the earth were behaving
badly and brought shame upon their creators, so their creators decided
to rid the earth of mankind and then start over from scratch and create
a whole different set of peoples who were faithful and kind to their
creators and gave thanks for their forgiveness and not take advantage
of the creators. In every story also there is a person or animal
that was saved from the flood by the kindness and mercifulness of the
creators. In some stories it is aboard a ship, and in others it
is a kind of magical gourd, or in others a small raft or canoe.
Still others survived by climbing to the top of the highest mountain to
avoid the oncoming waters. Every story that I have retold has
these same basic premises.
These
stories will appeal to those who have a general interest in flood
mythology and to people who like to compare and/or contrast stories of
different cultures. I hope that people will be interested in my
stories and that it will contribute to those people seeking knowledge
in more than just my web site. People will go to the other web
sites that I have listed above for more detailed information concerning
the various flood myths that are found throughout all of the
world.
This webpage and
included stories have really changed my perspective on the whole Noah's
Ark myth. It has shown me that christians are not as unique as I
had once thought. Before completion of this assignment I had not
known that flood myth's are found in almost every culture on every
continent and every country in the world. The Greeks and Romans
too had a flood myth. I think that all cultures have some sort of
flood myth that more or less the same but with a few changes. The
name of the god or goddess might be different or the method used might
be different or who was saved might be different but all of the stories
are very much alike.
Well onto the flood
myths I guess. Here are seven stories about the flood myth.
The first is the classic Roman flood story
with gods and godesses. The second, the
chinese story is a very interesting tale and I was quite surprised at
the content and how it relates to all the other stories. The third myth, the Caddo Flood myth is one
that I picked because of the location of the Caddo indian group.
The fourth story is from Mexico and it
also surprised me in that how similar it is compared with the other
stories. The Hawaiian flood myth I
chose because of the fact that although one thinks that Hawaii is just
an island what it really is is a mountain ready to explode. The Lakota myth also peaked my interest because it
is a myth that has its origins in North America. And finally the seventh story is the conclusion of the Noah's
ark story that appears in most of the canonical versions of the old
testament of the Bible. Also the references for all of the
stories in my collection and all of the references for my images that I
have used for my stories can be found here.
