Almost glad to get back to work (it would take her mind off of that bizarre dream she just had), Meredith walked over to the board to see what her first assignment would be.
She read the following: “20 year old M suffering from severe dehydration-Room 201.”
Meredith thought this would be a simple and boring case. She would soon learn that nothing is simple or boring in this hospital. She grabbed the chart for Room 201 and went to go see the patient. She entered the room to find the bed empty, but she could hear someone in the bathroom.
Another resident walked into the room and said, “He has got the most severe case of diarrhea I have ever seen!”
Meredith cracked a smile, “Too severe for a little Pepto Bismol?”
“Yeah, definitely BEYOND that! This room is going to need some EXTRA deodorizing,” the resident joked.
The patient, a little embarrassed, came out of the bathroom and went back to his bed.
“Dude, I don’t know what happened! I was eating dinner with some friends and drinking a few beers and all of the sudden I got this intense feeling in my stomach. I’ve been having the runs nonstop!” the patient exclaimed.
The doctor entered the room and quizzed Meredith on what procedure should be done.
“Keep the patient hydrated via intravenous fluid and run gastrointestinal tests to see what the cause may be. It could be something he ate or drank,” Meredith stated.
“Good. Let me know the results.”
The doctor left the room to tend to other patients. One of the patient’s friends rushed into the room shortly after and confessed the cause of his buddy’s diarrhea. Meredith wasn’t going to have to run any tests on the patient after all.
“Have you guys seen the movie Wedding Crashers…..?” asked the friend.
Meredith nodded her head and knew immediately what had caused the case of diarrhea.
“You mean you put that in his drink?” Meredith asked.
“Yeah, I thought it would be funny! I didn’t think it would land him in the hospital!”
“You put VISINE in my beer??!!!” the patient yelled as he ran towards the bathroom door again.
“How much Visine did you put in his drink?” asked Meredith.
“Ummm…. 4… 5….6 drops… I don’t remember… is he going to be okay?” The friend had a worried look on his face.
“He’ll recover, but he’s going to have diarrhea for awhile before he gets the Visine completely out of his system,” Meredith told him.
Meredith left the room before the patient emerged out of the bathroom again. The odor was getting awfully strong and she was sure the patient had a thing or two to say to his friend.
“Cadaver juice dream and Visine-induced
diarrhea…” Meredith
thought to herself… “I just can’t wait for the rest of the night…”
