Introduction
For my storybook, I am doing Urban
Legends: Tales of the
Supernatural. This storybook appealed to me a lot more than the other
topics because I really do enjoy reading the scary stories such as
urban legends and I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I
do. Ever since middle school, watching the movie Urban
Legend, I have been
fascinated by urban legends. A story that gives you
chills while you read it is what makes a horror story a good story.
Every time I watch or read a horror story, I get chills thinking about
what is gonna happen next. Is somebody gonna jump out and scare me?
Everyone loves a good scare. I know I do! With urban legends, nobody
knows if they
are true or not. I think it is scary in a way because everybody,
including myself, wants to try out the urban legends they read or hear
about. Take, for example, the legend of "Bloody Mary." Who hasn't heard
about
"Bloody Mary?" People are curious to see if it really works. But people
are scared to even try it. What makes it even scarier is
that nobody knows how it originated. Who is this "Bloody Mary?"
The stories I will do for
the storybook are the scariest stories out there. They all share a
mystery that makes everyone wondering at the end. After reading each
and every one of the urban legends, I decided these four were the
scariest: "The Mummy," "The
Vanishing Hitchhiker," "Helping Hands," and "Black Agnes."
"The Mummy"
is an urban legend about an ancient mummy who brought a
curse along with it. This story will give you the chills and scare you
because it is about mummies and curses. What really makes it
scary is that the story takes place on the Titanic. So it could seem
like it could be true and that it could happen again. What kind of
curse it could be and how it originated is a very interesting and scary
story to read.
"The
Vanishing Hitchhiker" is a story about hitchhiking.
If you ever thought picking up a stranger or hitchhiker, then you can
relate to this story. That is why this
story would be really scary to tell: who knows what
could happen with the driver or hitchhiker? Now that could scare
anybody.
"Black
Agnes" takes place in a cemetery at night. The setting of the
story always has an effect of making it scarier or not. For example, a
cemetery is a perfect setting for a story. It gives a story an eerie
feeling. Nobody feels comfortable in a cemetery, especially at night.
There are stories everywhere about cemeteries being haunted and creepy.
And
what makes it
even scarier is that not only does the character in the story visits
the cemetery, but she stays the night! Another type of scary story is
a disaster or "accidents" story. The movie Final
Destination brought a
new type of scary story to theater audiences. It made audiences scared
and cringe at accidents and disasters portrayed in the movie. "Helping
Hands" is
a story that will make you cringe!
So
shall we go ahead and start? Our stories start off with a restless
child, Maddie, who is begging for a scary story to hear before bed.
Maddie ask,"Mommy, can you tell me a scary story?" The mother
replies,"Of course sweetheart, it all starts like this...."
