The Mummy's Curse
Maddie asks,
"Mommy, can you please read me a scary
story?" The mother replies, "Of course, sweetheart." The mother
thinks for a second, and then she smiles. "I have the perfect
story, Maddie," says the mother. Maddie smiles with anxiety and
curiosity.
"There lived a princess of Amen-Ra," says the mother. Maddie was very
excited to hear the story, so she sat straight up, listening to every
word. The
mother then went on with the story.
When the princess died, she was
buried deep
in a vault by the banks of the Nile. Four English
gentlemen received invitations to attend an auction to buy the tomb of
the
princess. The men were collectors of lavish things and the princess's
tomb was
something they each wanted. That was the main problem, so they had to
come up with a plan to see who would be able to buy the
princess's tomb. The four men decided they would play rock, paper, and
scissors. The man who won was very excited but he did not know what he
was
getting into. The man paid to have the tomb delivered to his hotel.
After the tomb was delivered to the hotel, the man disappeared. The
last anyone heard of the man was that he walked towards the desert and
nobody ever saw him after that.
The three English gentlemen were
puzzled
about what could have happened
to their friend. They decided they would return home. The next day, one
of the
men was accidentally shot in the back by an Egyptian servant. It was so
severe
that he was paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors said he would
never
walk
again. Meanwhile, as the third gentlemen was on his way home, he found
out that his
wife
was leaving him and taking the children with her. The last of the
gentlemen who
came down and planned on buying the lavish tomb of the princess
contracted an
illness so serious he lost his speech and vision. The mother stops and
asks,"Scared yet? Do you want me to keep going?" Maddie replies,"Yes!"
The tomb was eventually brought to England.
Along
the way, there were mysterious and unexplained events that happened to
the
people who cared for the tomb. Another collector over in England
decided
to buy the tomb because he was so curious and impressed by the tomb.
The Englishman
soon found out that his home was destroyed by a flood and his family
injured, so
he hurriedly gave away the tomb to a museum. As the tomb was being
carried to
its new home, one of the men carrying it fell down and suffered a
concussion, and
the other man died of unexplained reasons. Throughout the tomb's stay
at the
museum, people heard screams, sobbing, and thumping in the tomb. When
the museum staff would come in each morning, they found the
other
exhibits smashed and thrown around, but the tomb was always in its
place. A visitor
who thought
it would be funny to mess with the tomb by throwing a dust cloth at the
tomb's
painted face was found dead hours later. A photographer took a
picture of the tomb for a paper, but when he developed the picture, he
saw
that
there was a horrible human face on the tomb.
The picture drove him crazy so he locked
himself in a room and shot himself. The owner of the museum
decided to
have the tomb of the princess taken down to the basement so it could do
no more
harm. But even with the princess in the basement, unexplained things
were still
happening. The mother stops and asks, "Are you scared yet? Do you still
want me to continue?" Maddie reaches towards her blanket and replies,
"I am scared but please continue, Mommy."
After countless unexplained accidents, a man from New York
dismissed all
the rumors of a curse of a mummy and bought the tomb. He had the tomb
loaded aboard a
new and massive ocean-liner to make its way to New York. The ship was hailed as the
greatest ship ever. The ship set sail to New York
on
April 14,
but it never reached its destination. The mummy's curse tomb took the
ship and 1,500 of its passengers
down to
the bottom of the Atlantic. The
ship's name was the Titanic. To this day, the mummy has not been found,
and people say that the mummy is waiting at the bottom of the
Atlantic for its next owner.
"The end," says the mother. Maddie is shaking
underneath the blankets. The mother then asks "Was that too scary for
you, Maddie?" Maddie then replies, "Yes Mommy, but I really liked
it. Can you tell me another?" asks Maddie.

Author's note: In the original story, the four men
drew lots to see who would buy the tomb. I changed the accidents that
happened
to the last three gentlemen who came to buy the tomb. The
second man was shot in the arm and had his arm amputated. The third
accident that happened to the third man was that he found out his bank
had failed and he lost all his money. The fourth accident that happened
to the last man was that he lost his job and became homeless. In the
original story, while the tomb was being taken down to the attic, the
supervisor was found dead on his desk. I also left out the part of the
cleaners who felt scared to go near the princess's tomb. In the
original
story, there was a private collector who kept the tomb in his attic. I
also left out the part where Madame Helena
Blavatsky, the famous spiritualist, visited the man's attic and that
she felt the presence of evil. The owner
of the tomb asked her to exorcise the evil. but she did not
succeed and she warned the man to
get rid of the mummy tomb as soon as possible.
