Outside Interests

In addition to my interests in education and philosophy I do also have some outside interests which keep me busy outside of study and working hours.

Running

I love to run and to date have completed four marathons, three half-marathons and numerous 5K, 10K and 5 mile races. Having a physical activity helps me stay focused and energetic for my study and work. There are also numerous organisations which promote running with children, if you like to run and are an educator interested in promoting running and healthy lifestyle choices in children take a look at the following links:

Kid's Running - Runner's World, one of the biggest websites in the US for adult runners, provides this website for kids including kid-safe training programs and ideas about how to encourage children to adopt healthy lifestyles.

Girls on the Run - Charity helping pre-teen girls develop healthy lifestyle habits and self-respect through running.

OKC Memorial Kid's Marathon - The OKC Memorial Marathon organises a kid's marathon where the children "collect" miles towards the 26.2 miles of a marathon throughout the school year, running the final mile of their marathon on the course.

Knitting

I also love to knit. It's something I can do while sitting in front of the TV so that I'm not just sitting there doing nothing but stare at the screen. I like to try and play with different kinds of yarn and adapt and sometimes invent patterns. It helps me to express my creative side without making too much mess.

Knitty - This is an online knitting magazine with lots of great patterns. It is my goal in knitting to make up a pattern good enough to submit.
