Author's Note: The original Poisonous Payphone story comes from Snopes.com. Once again, this story was passed along by email, by an unknown "do-gooder" who informs the reader to pass along the email even if they don't read it themselves. The original email tells how LSD and Strychnine are deadly when mixed, because they are absorbed by the human skin and then they kill you. Also in the original email is the reason for placing the deadly drug mixture on the payphone parts...gang member initiation. I left that part out because it was not pertinent to my story, although gang initiation is a very popular element to all types of urban legends. This email lists the name of the sender as Tina Strongman, who works as a 911 telephone operator, and who has received emergency phone calls about this kind of poisoning. She even claims people have died from these incidents, specifically, in incidents on the east coast. Turns out it is all false. Ms. Strongman does not list a city, a state, or any relevant information about a specific incident that would make this believable. Not to mention that there have been no reports of this kind of poisoning actually happening anywhere! In fact, your hands would have to be incredibly sweaty when you touch the drug ridden phone part, or else the dry drug mixture would not absorb into your skin. Those are some of the reasons why this urban legend has been busted!
