drinks

"Here is your drink, sir. By the way, before I get started with my first story, what is your name?"

"Oh, my name is Jim. It's nice to meet you... and your name is?"

"My name is Jerry. Now that we have that settled, here we go."

"I’m going to start off with Rama and Sita’s love story, because of how you told me about your ups and downs your having in your relationship. These two are probably my favorite famous couple throughout history. Their love gets put to the test several times and they find a way to make it work. I really hope this story will help you see that all relationships go through tough times.

Rama was a very powerful human in a world full of gods and magical creatures. He saw a pretty girl at a party and knew he had to be with her. That girl was Sita and, man, I heard she was a looker. She was a gorgeous woman and Rama just had to have her. There was just one thing standing in his way of marrying her. Do you want another beer?"

"Yeah, I’ll take another. What was in his way?"

"Rama had to do something no one had ever been able to do. Many men had tried to marry Sita before him, but no one could ever lift, bend, and string the bow of Shiva."

"How hard is it to lift a bow and string it?

"Supposedly this bow was really magical! Anyway, Rama was able to do it and it impressed Sita. Rama won over Sita and they fell in love with one another. You said you won your girlfriend over from a contest, right?"

" Yeah, I think it was out of like fifteen other guys."

"You and Rama have something in common, don't you think?

"Yeah, we really do. I think it's really cool that he was the only one who could handle that bow."

"After Rama and Sita settled in back at Rama's palace in Ayodhya, their lives got turned upside down. Rama was exiled for fourteen years from Ayodhya. He was next in line to be crowned as king and his father’s wife hated that. She wanted her son, Bharata, to be king. So, Rama was kicked out and since Sita loved her husband so much, she went with him. Rama was worried about her safety and didn’t really want her to go. Sita had to be with him though, so she moved with him. Lakshmana, Rama's brother, joined the two in the years of exile."

"Dang! Where did they have to move?"

"They had to go to Chitrakuta, in the Dandaka forest."

‘They had to live in a forest?"

"Yeah, they had it rough."

"At least I get to live with my parents since I got kicked out."

“They fixed up a place out in the forest and one day a holy man came to their home. Rama went after a magical, golden deer and begged Sita not to leave the house, because her life might be in danger. She thought that she heard Rama crying and yelling for help; so, she made Lakshmana, Rama’s brother, go look for him. Lakshmana told Sita that the voice she heard wasn’t Rama and they should stay there at the forest house. He thought it would be a better idea to wait for Rama. Sita, however, forced Lakshmana to leave and go check on Rama. While Sita was alone at the house, a hermit came to visit her. She opened the door and let the hermit in. Little did she know the hermit was really, Ravana, a ten headed beast. Ravana so was in love with her. Sita refused to go with him, so he kidnapped her! She didn’t want to go with Ravana, because she loved Rama. This part makes me think of your girlfriend, son. I don’t think she would want to go off with another guy like you think. "

 "Really?"

"Yeah, I really think she would choose you."

"Before you finish this story I need to go to the bathroom and order another drink."

"Okay, kid. "

Author's note: I wanted my story to be fun to read and something different. Jim came in to drink his sorrows away and ended up getting advice from the bartender. Loves stories are always exciting to read about, because they are full of magic and adventure. Rama and Sita's love is really put to the test in this book. Rama is exiled from his home and Sita can't stand to be without him, so she ends up going with him. Jerry, the bartender, is trying to explain with his stories that every relationship has tough times but usually there is light at the end of the tunnel. Jerry wants everything to work out for his customer and he wants his story to touch someone else. Jerry tries to let Jim know that everything will be okay and if he really loves his girlfriend they will find a way to work it out. In my next story, Jerry will pick up where he left off. He will talk about everything Rama did to find Sita. Jerry wants this part of his story to really get to Jim, so he will see that things will get hard in his relationship. These stories mean a lot to Jerry, and he hopes that they will be helpful to his new friend.
