I will be telling my stories as a bartender consulting a customer.

Heartache

My topic is Indian love stories,
but I want to show you how those ancient stories could
connect with a regular guy, today,
and the problems he has in his love life.
But I'm really not the best person to tell you about those love stories.
Let's go listen to what Jerry,
the bartender, has to say.

A young man walked into my bar one day and he wasn’t looking so good. He looked like he hadn’t showered in a few days and like he had been crying a lot. If I remember correctly, his name was Jim. After talking to him, I learned he and his girlfriend had been fighting a lot and were on the verge of breaking up. So, let’s go back a few years and I'll tell you about the story of Jim and what I told him. I know a few love stories, so I hope you enjoy the stories I told Jim as much as he enjoyed them. The year was 2004 when Jim stumbled into my bar....

"Welcome to the Frog Pond! Come over here and let’s fix you a drink.”

“Ugh! Give me your strongest shot of liquor. Actually make it three shots. I feel like spending my day here and getting drunk.”

"Are you having a rough day, kid? Anything you’d like to share with me or would you rather keep it in? I’ll just pour you shots till you’re ready to call it a day.”

"Thanks, man. Yeah, I've had a few rough weeks! My girlfriend and I are going through a lot and I think we may break up. I wanted to marry her, but I'm not sure if we can make it. We have a lot of stress in our lives right now. We've been kicked out of our apartment because the landlord didn't like me. The reason I didn't have money to pay rent is because I have a gambling problem. I spent all of my money for my bills at the casino. On top of all that, there is this guy who is really obsessed with my girlfriend and keeps trying to steal her away from me. She swears she doesn't want anything to do with him, but I feel like I'm not good enough anymore. I would bet that if that guy took her away from here she probably wouldn't look back."

 "How did you two meet?"

"It's actually kind of funny. We met at a contest. I was the only one who could do a back flip and after that she wanted to get to know me."

"That's interesting, son. I actually know a few stories that are pretty similar to what you're going through. The first story is about a couple named Rama and Sita. These two people go through so much together and their love is really put to the test. After all they went through, they find a way to make it work because they really love each other. They also find a way to make it through all the heartache they've had to put up with. Their love is magical and very passionate. I also know another couple whose love gets put to the test. Nala and Damayanti were their names and they were very good-looking… just like yourself, son. They were brought together by their looks and they ended up really loving each other. Nala had a gambling problem, like you, and ended up losing everything. He turned into something he couldn't even recognize and had to prove to Damayanti that it was really him."

"Wow! That sounds like my life. I'm pretty interested now. Will you please tell me more?"

 "Yeah, of course."

"I would like a Coors Light before we get started."

 "No problem."
