Module Four - Websites
A few basics….
- Consideration should be given to the authority of a website's sources of information before deciding to cite it.
- Authors should note, that anything posted on the Internet is “published” in the sense of copyright and must be treated as such for the purposes of complete citation and clearance of permissions, if relevant. (see 4.2 for copyright information)
- Electronic content by its very nature will continue to be impermanent and manipulable. If a source changes or becomes unavailable, citations to that source may need to be adjusted. 17.5
- Websites may be cited in running text instead of a in-text citation at end of paragraph. (Ex: "On the Library of Congress website it states...") However, a formal citation may still be required in the reference list.
- Emails from mailing lists and weblog entries may also be cited in similar fashion to websites. 17.236
