New Member Process

The new member process is a four-week process that is designed to actively engage the new members of Gamma Delta Pi in the American Indian community. Throughout the process you will participate in events corresponding to the four stages of the butterfly. It is also our desire that the new members, through the experiences they share, will come closer and begin forming bonds that will lead to a strong sisterhood. Please refer to the symbol section of your notebook to gain a better understanding of the Butterfly and it’s importance to Gamma Delta Pi. The following sections will be a more in depth look at the four stages of the new member process.

The Egg-Stage One:
The first stage in the development of the butterfly is the egg stage. A child is the first stage to understand, in order to think like a child you will be in touch with the innocence of a child.

The Caterpillar-Stage Two:
The second stage is the caterpillar stage. Adolescence is the second stage in which you begin to become a woman or man and this is very important to be able to connect to yourself and your history and to recognize the uniqueness of self in order not to become indulged with the pressures of today's society.

The Cocoon-Stage Three:
The third stage is the Cocoon stage. Adulthood is the third stage to understand that growth and experience are never ending throughout these stages.

The Butterfly-Stage Four:
The fourth stage is the Butterfly stage. We are a lost generation without the wisdom, intelligence, an experience of the elderly. Therefore the last stage, the stage of the Butterfly is very important.
