The tryouts were held
in a big open
library that was the center of the school.
The way the school was set up every class room could look into
the
center where the tryouts were being held.
They were after school so there were still some kids there, but
not
all. So, I put my tape in, Michael
Jackson’s “Black or White,” and danced for the judges, moonwalk
included. At the end the students that
were still
around and the judges clapped, no other act got applause.

When
it finally came time for the dress rehearsal the teacher running the
show
looked at me and said, “Where’s your costume Chris?”
Of course I had my favorite shirt on and
a pair of jeans so I
told her, “This is it.” “Well you have
to have a costume.” Even in an elementary
school talent show a flashy
show was needed. I was already dancing just like Michael
Jackson, what more did they need. So I told my mom I
needed one and she made me one just in time for the performance. The shirt was black and the pants were
white, the idea of course stemming from the song.
The shirt had silver stars all over its made from glue and glitter and
pants had a design on them and my mom had also put glitter stars on
them.
