As
Michael’s fame grew so did his knowledge of
the business.
He realized how to keep
his image and his person in different
spaces.
When he was still in the Jackson
5 there was incident
when a reporter asked him how old he was. The
record company
still wanted his image to
be that of a little boy. Michael and
Barry
Gordy insisted that Michael was still eight even though he was
really
eleven. “I figured out at an early age
that if someone said something
about me that wasn’t true, it was a lie. But
if someone said something
about my image
that wasn’t true, then that was okay. (Graves,
26).”
