As the Jackson
5 disbanded Michael’s solo career was launched.
His career was a rocket straight to the top with
no coming down. Off The Wall, then
Thriller, and next Bad
were all successes. Thriller is the top
selling album of all time, selling more than 40 million copies (Rolling
Stone;
11/15/90 Issue 591, p59, 6p, 3c, 1bw). Jackson’s
music astounded people’s ears. They had
never heard anyone sing the way he did, with passion he had.
His
range and talent are unmatched, singing
quiet love songs like “The Girl is Mine” to the screaming pop of
“Thriller.” As Michael grew up he also
evolved as a songwriter and a performer.
He was tired of the happy and smiling fun pop funk of the Jackson 5 and
wanted to
do something different. The music he
made after the Jackson
5 was edgier and rawer. He
wanted louder
sounds and rhythms that cut.
